Roof Components for Wimbledon No.1 Court

Tinsley Bridge fabricate retractable roof components for Wimbledon No.1 Court

The first components have been manufactured at Tinsley Bridge for the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s new retractable roof. The massive fabrications will form the roof hinge assembly in a contract for SCX, the Sheffield firm who built the existing Centre Court retractable roof. The No.1 Court roof is due to be installed in time for The Championships in 2019.

This technically complex project requires the highest levels of safety management, quality and manufacturing capabilities. Tinsley Bridge’s highly experienced engineers and 250,000ft² CNC machining and fabrication unit can deliver the expertise necessary to complete the challenge.

Simon Eastwood, SCX Managing Director says: “SCX is delighted to play our part in helping Wimbledon with the redevelopment of No.1 Court. And it’s a great all-round boost for business in Sheffield too.”

Robert Deatker, AELTC Estate Director, commented: “We are very proud of the engineering works coming out of Sheffield and the talented UK manufacturing ability that Tinsley Bridge can offer in support of the No.1 Court project.”

Mark Webber, Tinsley Bridge Group Managing Director added: “This is a world class engineering project that showcases the skills and engineering excellence Sheffield has to offer. Our experience delivering Grade 1 Nuclear projects and accreditation to BS EN1090 Execution Class 4 has provided the perfect manufacturing platform to work with SCX on the Wimbledon project.”
