Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Tinsley Bridge contracts to supply safety critical parts for London Underground tube trains.
A major refurbishment programme has been started for trains used on the Piccadilly & Northern Line. Tinsley Bridge will supply highly complex brackets which are a structural part of the train bogies.
These fabricated precision machined brackets are safety critical components within the train as they transmit all the acceleration and braking forces. The specification includes precision tolerance dimensions and intricate welding and manufacturing techniques to eliminate potential stress raisers, ensuring the required integrity of the finished parts is achieved.
Mark Webber, Managing Director, said “The development and manufacture of the Piccadilly & Northern Line tube brackets has been particularly challenging and involved a steep learning curve within Tinsley Bridge. It is good to see the end result is a complex engineering product manufactured to the highest quality standard. We are proud of that our contribution to the TfL refurbishment project will help keep London moving for many years to come”.
